Driving Miss Daisy

April 10-19, 2026

PTC @ Steeltown Black Box Series continues with Driving Miss Daisy, April 10-19, 2026.

Driving Miss Daisy, a play by Alfred Uhry, chronicles the 25-year friendship between an elderly, independent Jewish widow, Daisy Werthan, and her African-American chauffeur, Hoke Coleburn, in Atlanta. Over two decades, their initially strained employer-employee relationship evolves into a deep bond of mutual respect and affection, mirroring the significant social and racial changes occurring in the American South during the Civil Rights Movement. Key moments include Miss Daisy teaching Hoke to read and their shared experiences at a Martin Luther King Jr.. banquet, underscoring themes of tolerance, friendship, and changing social attitudes.
