Mission Statement

Pittsburg Theatre Company’s mission is to enlighten, empower, and strengthen our community through theatrical education, exciting volunteer opportunities and live performance events.

History

Betty Brown

Pittsburg Theatre Company started as an Adult Education class lead by Betty Brown. From September 1973 until April 1978, Betty ran the classes and brought various types of productions to the delight of audiences. However, funding priorities changes and the Adult Education class was cut from the curriculum. Six members struggled to continue presenting plays while applying for Federal and California non-profit status. Pittsburg Community Theatre was incorporated on April 9, 1979. We have grown from those original six members to include hundreds of adults and youth involved in our productions on stage and behind the scenes.

We were honored in 2012 to be designated by the City of Pittsburg as the Resident Theatre Company of the historic California Theatre on Railroad Avenue.

The company has continued to grow, improving the quality of our productions with each season. We have expanded our programs to include the popular PTC@Steeltown Black Box series of plays, Showstoppers youth theatre workshops, and cooperative ventures with other local theatre companies.

In 2022, Pittsburg Community Theatre changed our name to Pittsburg Theatre Company to reflect the increasing quality and diversity of our performing arts programs. We remain a community based, volunteer led organization.
